This month, the Parents and Grandparents program (PGP) is scheduled to resume, with Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) gearing up to dispatch invitations to potential sponsors. As per the department's announcement, commencing May 21st, 2024, they will issue 35,700 invitations, aiming to approve 20,500 complete applications.
Process
To secure permanent residence (PR) via the PGP, candidates need to:
· Ensure they fulfill all pertinent eligibility requirements (including sponsorship eligibility, Canadian residency, undertaking signature, and meeting minimum income thresholds, etc.).
· Fill out an interest to sponsor form on the IRCC website. For eligibility in the 2024 cycle, applicants should not have received an invitation to apply (ITA) in 2021, 2022, or 2023.
· (When the PGP lottery reopens), monitor the email provided on the interest to sponsor form for an invitation—both on the reopening day and during the subsequent two-week period after the lottery recommences.
· Upon receiving an ITA, sponsors must submit their application via the Permanent Residence Portal or the Representative Residence Portal (if represented by an authorized agent) by the deadline specified in the invitation email.
Eligibility
IRCC has announced its plan to extend invitations to candidates from the 2020 pool of the PGP. This indicates that individuals receiving invitations in the upcoming round submitted their profiles in 2020. This marks the fourth consecutive year that the PGP will exclusively consider profiles submitted in 2020.
Under the PGP framework, applicants will be randomly selected through a lottery system. These invitations will be sent to sponsors via the email they provided on their interest to sponsor form. Sponsors are encouraged to monitor their emails starting May 21st, with all invitations expected to be dispatched within approximately two weeks from this date.
Summary

The draws are infrequent and you could be left waiting a while to get through this process so in the meantime it is best to apply for a Super-visa so your parents and grandparents can stay in Canada with you until a sponsorship opportunity comes up that you can get selected in.
